Repairs - Have you done any?
Maybe this belongs in one of the lounges, but being new, I'm not sure. Today, I purchased an interesting studio raku pot. I really like it, but it has a couple of damaged areas along the top edge. I have viewed a couple of videos and websites regarding making repairs to ceramics and I think I could pull it off, but I wondered if any of you have fixed any of your own pieces and what the success/failure rate might be.
I'll post a photo of the pot and the damaged areas when I get home from work.

Big Ed's the person who knows about repairs. I've tried it, but I'm crap. Anything I try to repair soon gets donated to the local charity shop where I suspect they bin it.

The pros make it look pretty easy. Maybe I'd better break a store bought coffee mug first to practice on!

Re: Repairs - Have you done any?
it isn't easy, restoration is a bit like DIY, most people practice for years before they get it right

Re: Repairs - Have you done any?
Depending on the type of Raku, it may well be different to repair than most ceramics.

I took a few photos of the pot and posted them over in the Canadian pottery thread (Tim Isaac / Karin Bach).
I think I'll cut my losses on this one and just put a plant in it

Re: Repairs - Have you done any?
I'm in the market for a professional repair - any advice?
Most of the online listings seem to be for 'china' - as if we only want our Meissen repaired? I'm looking for some earthenware repairs of damage. It's a piece I want to keep for myself, not sell.
Any recommendations - do they usually do a good job? Above expectations? Below? Any advice would be appreciated.

Brin - Did he do a good job? Was it earthenware? Have you got any details please (PM me) - It helps as if I get a quote from him and it's twice what others want then it give me something to gauge by = you usually get what you pay for.
I'm the other side of London so I'm looking for someone more local, but I can always post.

Re: Repairs - Have you done any?
i once restored some glaze chips using modelmaking enamel paint
it worked quite well....
unfortunately the paint dried in the little pots some weeks later even i've closed them
the vase has been a birthday present to a friend
i would not restore pieces i sell...

Re: Repairs - Have you done any?
Brin, Still trying, I'll try again. Stuart called back but did not know his email address. Love to get this thing mended for me - not for selling but it's smashed to bits. An email photo or two is better than an 1000 words. I'll keep trying with Stuart.
