Delft? Mug or Pitcher? Old or New?
Hello! I'm requesting the help of someone a little more experienced in the field of delftware who could probably give me some direction as to this piece. From what I can ascertain it appears to be from Delft or at least somewhere in Holland (it's covered in Tulips) and since it has a spout I'm thinking it is a kind of pitcher. As far as age I'm having a bit more trouble as I see clear signs of age and wear on the base (the white glaze has actually worn away at some parts revealing the underclay). The piece is unmarked and does not seem like a tourist piece. I cant find any similar examples though. Thanks for all your time and help!

this is not a piece of Delft ware as it's not a tin glazed earthenware - but the style is certainly reminiscent of delftware. It's a piece of late Victorian transfer printed earthenware, probably from Staffordshire and could be by any number of factories. It's possible that the jug came in a 3-sizes set, or was part of a larger table setting. The art nouveau style is evident here so would date it around 1890/1900.

Ah! Thank you for the quick and helpful reply! That would explain why I couldn't find any examples of this style under delft pottery. I dont know why I didnt expand my search north to the UK, the tulips threw me off. Thanks for your help!

I found another example of the same pattern produced by F.W. & Co. (F. Winkle) which is signed as such however mine isn't signed, is it possible that it was produced by them? Or would different companies all use the same patterns? The company was in existence from 1890-1930 so it fits your time placement. Thanks again!

i think it's most likely yours is by F Winkle too - if it was part of a set, it may simply be that not all the pieces in the set were given a stamped mark on the base, or it just got missed by mistake.
But to answer you other question, yes, sometimes patterns were used by several companies - but they tended to be the more popular/universal ones such as Willow or Abbey for example.
