Jean Hampton, Hampton pottery, Penn, (Wolverhampton)

Sweet slipware bird, a couple of inches big, bought with Jean Hampton plates.
Decoration is similar in style to her work but only familiar with her usual domestic pieces...

Definately Jean Hampton, she did do birds and they tend to carry a gold label rather than the usual incised mark.

What began as a financial aid to help her daughter through college, ended up a full time profession which revealed her amazing individual style with slipware. Jean Hampton died of Leukemia sometime in the 1980's.

Mostly plates and shallow bowls, some animals (mainly birds) and a small amount of thrown ware. Usually marked with incised 'Hampton' and often a date. Also a Gold paper label with 'Hampton Pottery' and Wolverhampton or Sedgley phone number.

Picked up a nice Jean Hampton plate in a charity shop today.

A different label, Incised underneath it.

She does appear to have been quite prolific. With most of her work pf a very high standard. For a potter who has been dead for a long time you still see quite a lot of her work on Ebay.

My godmother she made this plate for my christening!

She was my Godmother! She made this plate for my christening
