Anja Lubach

Jug or vase or just collapsed pot. Impulse buy because it looked like a bird but may have wasted my £2 this one, especially since the 'spout' is chipped, and a bit heavily potted on the base.
Signed on the base but I can't read it.

not as much as her ones with fingers, lips and open mouths with teeth. There were smaller ones of the head version which you can put tea lights in and the faces glow.

Wonderful maker, I commissioned this off her after seeing her work in a book, she gave me the smaller one as it was a birthday present, which was lovely of her!

Lol! Not exactly. Went with a friend on Wednesday. She bought it for me for Christmas :)

Can anyone confirm this is signed by Felicity Aylieff?  

She signed her work with incised capitals up to about the mid 90's.
Got a couple of pieces of her work of that period, and they are very accomplished pieces. In all honesty this one looks nothing like them,and indeed is rather pedestrian.

Later she signed with lower case.

I suspect that, whichever potter this is by, signed it on request after being fired.

Confirmed by Anja Lubach that the beaker and ‘jug’ are old ones of hers

This thread does not really do the lady Justice. She does some really nice work. From Contemporary Ceramics August 2021,

I gave Anja her first solo exhibition after she left the RCA, despite the fact that she used porcelain, which is not my preferred medium.

Her work was bought by some quite well off ladies at her graduation show and at a subsequent selling exhibition at Sotheby's. However, Anja did tell me that once she told them that her studio was in Deptford they completely lost interest in her and her work. Happy to buy from the RCA and Bond Street but "south of the river", no thank you.

A couple of porcelain pieces that were exhibited and sold at her first solo exhibition, which was held at the Harlequin Gallery in Greenwich in June 2002. Anja had graduated from the RCA the previous year.


Here's an image of the base of the white piece. It is fully signed but isn't clear in the image.
