Mother and boy reading Bible pottery figure
I have just bought this earthenware pottery figure - height 20cm. Unmarked and without a base - was it on a wooden base I wonder? Looks early 20thC to me. Does anyone know which factory made it?

My guess would be made in a catholic country like Italy.

I agree with Naomi, however dosn't have to be Italy, Goebel also made many religious figures. This one looks different than ones I've seen though. Yours looks quite nicely done (at least the faces ) Are there no marks at all? No numbers?

No marks at all except for a small dot and a couple of small dashes on the base rim, doesn't look like a factory mark, more a painter's mark and is very small. To me it looks 1900-40

Also it came in a mixed lot with some pearlware and early Staffordshire figures

Does look to be hand painted and there are signs of age but it doesn't look primitive enough to be 19th century Staffordshire. More likely to be 20th century Continental.

No it's not a 'Staffordshire' figure, never thought it was, just thought it could be old, say
1900-40. It is earthenware, not porcelain, of a distinct creamy colour gloss inside and has all over crazing.
