I can't see a mark. There's an unglazed patch on the base but no mark.but why such an elaborate mark.

I suspect its oriental. The net-like decoration is similar to Taiwanese pieces.

Thats a mark, with a 10x and 20x loupe, not an unglazed area, its a glazed mark in copper or bronze colour, taiwan is possible i have been to asian countries, and lived in burma 14 years, i have never seen any style like. If thi is a true fishscale is much more finer and much more precise, this looks like a piece i could do, in fact i do wm de morgan look alike tiles with my own designs all the time, in fact this is probably very easy to do being it is so small. well, at least for a pound about 1.50 us dollars that saved me a flight to taipei. good food in taipai

Re: blue fishscale vase glazed inside
I still think it's an unglazed area. Possibly contaminated by something on the potter's hand since it looks like a partial hand print, so the glaze didn't stick there during firing.

Others will know better than me, but from the photos it looks slip moulded rather than wheel turned studio pottery.

To me it looks like a modern factory made import from the Far East but if you like it then for a pound it's a bargain.

Re: blue fishscale vase glazed inside
Good Day,
Thank you for the comments, I agree with everyone of these, and I do not think the pan mark is a thumb print or unglazed area as I have the piece and photographs always hid something. If you can touch the item, and look at the item close up in person. That always give a perfect answer. I already know this is pottery hard and not porcelain or painted glass.
Im sure I coud duplicate this piece except possibly the mark, but I always do this, with tiles, plates. I have an entire range of fantasque, and bizarre honolulu clarice cliff look a likes as well as wm de morgens with my own designs of course.
I will be anixious to get too the ceramic shop I visit every thursday night and begin a tile of some small item to duplicatethis piece, and I will show the results. I collect 1890-1900 wemyss pieces beaker vases only. Its the only thing I value as true wemyss ware.
I also enjoy chinese and delft wares. Im picky and only have a few, most 1st-5 and 17thy century chinese and any 17-21st cent delft. glass is different mainly sweden, norway, maybe some french, even some usa milk glass but very old milk glass like 1850s, also welsh pottery is one of my other favs. I have only one nice piece, maybe i will show it one day. You can close this topic moderators and let some other folks put their nice pieces on to be identified.
