My first thought is Bizen ware.

There are several UK potters who make these types of pots, but the mark and the base and the clay says Japanese Bizen ware to me rather than English.

The stoneware body looks Japanese, as does the mark but it is not Bizen. Bizen pottery is unglazed.

I think that it is likely to be Japanese but I can't be certain.

No there aren't for this type of pot but I wouldn't rule out it being a potter your way.

Robert Yellin's site is probably the only place that I am aware of that has marks for what we might called Japanese studio pottery but unfortunately your vase isn't from one of the three pottery centres that he has marks for.

Maybe we need the book he mentions "Kogei Shuppan's Gendai no Tougei East and West".
