Majolica Vase - Spode?
Found this today at a car boot, looks like an early Spode mark, anyone able to confirm?

Re: Majolica Vase - Spode?
I assume that you are referring to the circle with a cross inside? If so then it does look like an early Spode mark, which was used on porcelain........... but your vase looks to me like earthenware and definitely not in the style of wares that the mark was used on by Spode. So I would say not Spode.
The style and marks on your vase suggest Northern European to me but it isn't a type of pottery that I know a great deal about.

Hi Studio-pots, found a number of references which refer to this impressed mark being used on early and earthenware and a few items listed on auction sites with same shape/style selling/sold as Spode. I know that I have seen an image of one of these vases somewhere before but damned if I can remember where.

Re: Majolica Vase - Spode?
Rule 1 - never believe anything that a seller on an auction site tells you unless you can varify it elsewhere.
The most reliable reference that I can find is that it was only used on porcelain but if it was used on Spode earthenware of the late 18th/early 19th century then it would have a white/cream body and not like your vase.

I would have thought the maker was G?. St.
If it's British you might find the mark on thepotteries website -

Yeah I'm always wary of what other sellers list as.
Mystery solved!
Gerbing & Stephan, Bohemia,

Couldn't quite tie in the G St to Spode. Bargain find at £3 anyway :).
Thanks all
