Assuming it had a wooden handle, and there was a cord round the mushroom-like projection inside, I'm still at a complete loss to know what it is.  Laughter Shrugs

I think it's not an utilitarian item, I believe it's contemporary studio pottery...

Yes, that would explain the puddle of green glaze in the bottom.
Saw something similar on a Pinterest board full of household gadgets, which was of Scandinavian origin, but that one was far more utilitarian. This is like an inside-out version.
