Opinions please
http://www.millersantiquesguide.com/items/85313/ewenny-zoomorphic-pig-jug-the/
this is an attribution by millers guide and the link below an ebay item
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HORACE-ELLIOTT-EWENNY-POTTERY-ZOOMORPHIC-PIG-JUG-/151192755223?pt=UK_PotteryPorcelain_Glass_PotteryPorcelain_China_SM&hash=item2333ca5c17#ht_93wt_1163
As both are unmarked I wonder how they have reached the conclusion ( millers that is , the seller is only following them )
Elliot was an Eccentric , he visited various potteries and exhibited in his showroom i london , he also madevarious pieces at ewenny on his yearly visits , he marked pieces with Elliot or with fleur de lys stamps and registered his work including a jug in the form of a pig inscribed " Y Mochin " the pig , anybody think these may be copies , why would he leave out signature and inscribes ? and reg no's. ?
just curious as I like the jug .

Re: Opinions please
Ebay one looks like a later copy of the one on the Millers website.
Whether either of them are by Elliot &/or Ewenny is another question, but Ewenny has been going for a very long time so if any pottery were going to produce a copy I'd say it was them.
Alternatively if could be Continental, but if that was there case there should be more of them around.

Re: Opinions please
Here's one by Elliot for comparison, so it seems the Millers one is right, but the ebay one still looks like a later copy.

But 5 different bidders seem to think it's right, so maybe it is.

Re: Opinions please
thanks for the links Naomi , I have some info on Elliot from my Bartlett book , I think your right about the ebay one being a copy , it isn't as elaborate as the others imo , but I might be totally wrong , i'll look further for others , Ta , Ed

this one from bonhams states from an elliot design , so maybe not always made by him personally although the 1900 date would be correct .

Re: Opinions please
I think, on balance, it's a recent copy.

Re: Opinions please
Unless they have changed their ways Miller's ask a dealer if they can take some pictures of their stock and then ask the dealer for the description and price of what they have photographed.

Re: Opinions please
just read that he was happy to let others at ewenny execute his designs , SP yes i thought that as I know quite a few of the names in the millers book and most of it is fantasy ,although I thought the auction quotes were actual .

Re: Opinions please
I've always assumed the prices were a mix of actual auction figures, estimates and wishful thinking, but mostly wishful thinking .

Re: Opinions please
I think any value should be a sold value not a 200% over the top estimate, other wise what is the point , some prices from Millers from 6/7 years ago look truly ludicrous now as the real market has dropped by so much as well , but true quality always shines through and holds its price and even increases in bad times.
