I don't think the other 'mark' is a potter's mark. More likely a finger or thumb print over a scratch/fingernail mark in the clay.

I think Nick's mark is usually more angular

Thanks for the replies.
I found this image of Nick Rees' mark: it does look a lot more angular and the descender of the N forms the lower leg of the K, so similar, but not the same:
Any other thoughts?
