Studio pottery lamp base - Margery Clinton?
Happy New Year to you all
Not sure if this post shouldn't be under "Lighting" but I'm assuming that as a pottery piece it's fine here as well.
It has a stamp that reads: MGCP or MCCP? Any ideas who made it?
Thank you
Simon

The CP might be Chessell Pottery or Cooper Pottery. The MC / MG may be the potter.

Not sure about Cooper Pottery, but Chessell mark looks similar. However the ones I've seen on the forum were either impressed or had stickers rather than raised marks.

Chessell Pottery is run by John and Sheila Francis, so no MG there.

Right, the style is a bit different than the pieces from their workshop as well. I'm still assuming it's British though.

Pretty sure it's not Chessell.

It isn't quite in the style of Margery Clinton's work that I know of but she has worked in East Lothian since 1978 so a possibility.

Doesn't appear to be Margery Clinton's mark

That's only one of many marks she has used over the years, Naomi.

Re: Studio pottery lamp base - Margery Clinton?
I think the mark could well be Margery Clinton , as Sp says she made plenty marks inculding a very close resemblance to this one ,also the area may well be a pointer and I wouldn'd rule out the style either , not conclusive by any means but well worth following up .

Thanks guys, the style and the provenance looks all good. I'm in Edinburgh so this is fine. The glaze however is a bit different, only small dots are lustre effect.
Any idea where I could see more of her signatures?

Re: Studio pottery lamp base - Margery Clinton?
I hadn't realised that she had died in 2005 and her work isn't something that I have come across a great deal over the years so it might prove difficult to see images of marks on pots. The book, British Studio Potters' Marks, has representations but they're not always entirely accurate, as images of actual marks would be.
I do see that the National Library in your city holds her archives. That might is interesting if you have the time and enthusiasm.

Thanks, I've just sent an email to the leading Glasgow auction house, they should help. If they won't know, someone may grab a bargain on ebay as I won't have a time to investigate further
