Vase id help please.
I have a problem reading the marks as they are quite blurred... I love the colours and the underglaze decoration of a paradise bird and the flowers. The colours of the glaze are nice and vibrant too.
I'm guessing it's English/British from the 1930's?
What I can read from the marks is the impressed shape/pattern number, probably 296 or 238?, also there is a blue mark, that most likely is a decorator's signature.
The other mark I cannot clearly see, possibly the second line is fieldings? Could they be a maker of this vase?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Simon

Re: Vase id help please.
Fieldings Pottery is possible and if the first line is Crown Devon then it is.

Yes, That what I thought. The only thing is that It doesn't look like Crown Devon I cannot be 100% sure but last 3 letters are Jom or Jon? Doesn't look like a Crown Devon mark with usual Capital C and D.

It doesn't look like any marks in Godden for Fieldings but it is the type of thing that I used to deal in thirty years ago and there was a CROWN DEVON mark in capital letters all the same size that I recall and the crown wasn't always there.
I can't be certain but can't think of any better options at the moment.

I think you're right, everything looks right. The style, colours of the glaze. But I'm also not 100%, especially with that underglaze sgraffito-like decoration.
Anyone else have any clues?

Re: Vase id help please.
Interesting lead but I doubt that's actually made by them. Neither Shorter & Sons or Stoke On Trent fits in

Re: Vase id help please.
It's similar to Charlotte Rhead's Tutor Rose pattern.

Yeah guys, looks like a dead end in this case... I have trawled through the gigabytes of pictures but couldn't spot similar vase nor the artist's signature.
Thanks Naomi for pointing CR to me, it really resembles her style but I still have an issue with the signature...
Any ideas where to look, ask?

Re: Vase id help please.
It is a tricky one because back in those days factories copied ideas and styles that other factories had made popular so seeing something similar in design with a clear backstamp would be 100% conclusive only if the backstamp matched the configuration on yours.

You might also consider searching: Burleigh, Clews, Flaxman/Wade Heath, Beswick, or Empire ware
