the mark kind of looks like an 'L' from a sideways view
whoops, just realised the x or l shaped mark is not actually a mark, it was a piece of fluff which had attached itself onto the base (it was stuck on)..
is there a smiley for slightly embarrassed ?

Although Richard Batterham does salt glaze on occasions this is not by him as climber says - the shape is not one of the shapes that he produces.

I hear you can tell the age of a studio pot by the wavy lines on the base ?
also does this actually look like a studio piece or could it be a factory piece?

You might be able to have a guess at my age by the lines on my base but not that of a studio pot! The lines or lack of them just give an idea of how it was removed from the wheel.
Your vase doesn't look like a factory piece at all and could well be from someone local to you.
