There was a potter working from the 1960s up to his death in 1991 at Bridge of Dee, Castle Douglas called John Davey. I'll see if I can find any images of his work.

This is a photo of John Davey's mark. He doesn't seem to extend the top of the J on his marks, so possibly not his.

There do appear to be a few images of his pots on the internet and the style would fit but ,as Naomi says the mark that she has isn't the same.
However, he was potting for around 30 years so you may well be right about the mark changing, Andy. After all it isn't difficult to lose your seal and need a new one. In my case it would likely change every week!

I have a few pots by John Davey and think this could very well be one of his. The coarse, rough-looking clay is characteristic of him.
