Re: John Wheeldon, Sudbury Derbyshire
It doesn't look anything like the work that he is associated with but the description of his early work and the mark do fit. A good spot and if you continue like this you won't need our help very soon.

He was at Oxford Ceramics Fair with completely different material to his lustre raku. A shame. I prefer his raku.

This is his current stuff, from Oxford.
Impressed W mark on the base.

agreed. BSPM book says ejw was his early mark, before W, so looks like he's gone back to making his early stuff.

Yes the lidded pot must be early as I bought it at least 10 years ago.

Re: John Wheeldon, Sudbury Derbyshire
I contacted John about a Raku vase I have and asked about the mug at the same time. He was very kind to respond:
" it’s an early piece, made at Sudbury Hall when I lived there and I think it will date to around 1976-78.
It is reduction fired in a gas kiln and looks like Potclays St.Thomas’ Oxidation body with a celadon glaze - David Leach’s “Ying-Ching“ recipe if I remember correctly.
Just thought I'd share on the forum.
