Ian Godfrey was probably one of the most unique potters to come out of the Golden era of British Studio Pottery.
Friendly with both Lucie Rie and Hans Coper he is often regarded as one of that circle of that potters as close to and influenced by Lucie Rie. She certainly admired his work. While having produced standard pots, he is mainly famed for his idiosyncratic forms slowly carved out of clay with a penknife. An unusual and interesting potter.
A stoneware chest of drawers. Surmounted by two detachable houses. Incised with reindeer, birds, turtles and fish. 20 cms high

yes a good and interesting potter his prices are reasonably affordable at present, his more complex creations always seem to have some damage when they come to auction. He is not on my wish to buy list but i like his work.

Re: Ian Godfrey
yes but his pieces are very recognisable and he's made his own little magic kingdom. That Stoneware Fox Box is fabulous, I really like pieces that make me go WTF is that! so much I see is normal / boring in the pottery world. Like the tiny case of drawers I posted from the V&A it makes you think why? what am I looking at? That's always a good thing in my world.
