S in a pot mark John & David Bishop, Sheldon pottery, Clevedon, Bristol

I really thought I'd seen this mark before in the yates etc. book but now there's no trace of it. Thanks

Hi, I have several little glazed pots that have this mark on the base. Can someone help please.

It was set up by John & David Bishop in 1973 at Clevedon, both of whom had done their training at Fishley Holland Pottery from what I've just read.

The work I have seen with this mark has had some resemblance to Fishley Holland Pottery, so it seems to fit.

I had always assumed that this pot was a Tenby piece but never really looked into it. Now, having read the Tenby thread here I am leaning towards it being Ewenny, made for the Tenby tourist trade. The base certainly has a Ewenny look to it.

Decoration on Ewenny seems always non-existent. and they are invariably marked,and with a very high gloss decoration all over. From the photo its is a little difficult to see how high gloss the glaze is. Never seen anything like that in Tenby, tho it there is a lot less of it than Ewenny. What makes you think it is Tenby?

The Tenby thought came from the incised 'Tenby' on the side in the 2nd. pic.
It is a glossy glaze, I'll try to get a better shot in a while once I've finished preparing dinner.

It isn't the most attractive blue I've ever seen but the glaze is about as glossy as a lot of Ewenny. A couple more pictures; the base shows the gloss better than the body, and the brown leaf design on the side looks glossier than the blue.
Maybe that blue is so drab it sucks the shine out of the gloss

That base is so similar to mine, right down to the three stilt-marks. I'm now thinking that my pot could be F.H.

Ouch, could not read the Full Tenby. Is it earthenware?

Yes, red earthenware. I just managed to find a tiny piece of unglazed clay by a stilt mark where a bit of the glaze came away when the stilt was broken off.

I think it's Sheldon Pottery. They didn't have many styles of decoration and they had a glazed base.

Looks like the one, Naomi, I think the pattern clinches it.
Poor pot must have identity issues now. It started life today as Tenby, shifted to Ewenny, had a brief stint as Fishley Holland, and ends up Sheldon. If it were human it would be  by now.
