Interesting red earthenware vase with a bronze coloured decoration in relief. Marked on the base with incised mark LR.
Could this be an early Lucie Rie vase which has been overlooked or is it, as is more likely, wishful thinking on my part.
I like to dream!!!

Unlikely. It's not her usual mark nor her usual clay, and not a style I've see amongst her work. I agree with Dantheman that it looks like an amateur piece.

I think saying that it is by an amateur is over egging it really.

What I considered was according to Yates-Owen, she worked with Red earthenware 1946-1949. Her early work was different to the very modern clean style that she later developed.

She did work with red earthenware in the UK and before that in Vienna but did train at the Kunstgewerbeschule there from 1922 to 1926. Therefore she could throw and, although different from her later work, her earthenware did have clean modern lines.

Your piece is crudely coiled and I think my comment above might be seen as cruel by some but I stand by it as being a fair assessment.
