I'm sure I have seen this before and found out who it was by, but at the moment it escapes me. If I remember I'll let you know.

Pomander style drip glaze vase - Gosforth Pottery
Any help identifying this vase would be greatly appreciated, not even sure if the pic I have taken of the mark is the right way round.

Possibly Dennis Bullock, Saltash and Pillaton, Cornwall in the 1970s- 90s. (full name = John Dennis Bullock) - info is from Ceramike, although the mark they have for him is a little different, but both marks look to be a combination of JDB

I have had a look at the mark you are referring to on Ceramike & like you say it is slightly different & there's not much Dennis Bullock pottery about to compare it to so it is the best suggestion so far. I do think it is a form of letters conjoined together but it does slightly resemble a clover leaf when viewed the other way round, or maybe that's just me, I am due an eye test :)

True, the other way up it looks like a tree.

I have had a quick look into Gosforth pottery & can't find a maker's mark but on their website there is a picture of their shop & what looks like a similar shaped piece on their shelves of pottery but can't be sure.

This is a picture of their mark. Yours looks like an upside down mirror image of it.

Tel Hallbankgate 397 ! That must date it?
Through a steam-powered exchange I bet.

I think it's upside down. Looks like Gosforth Pottery.

Hi Naomi, thanks for your suggestion. It does resemble Gosforth Pottery ( Richard & Barbara Wright ) sprigged mark in Yates-Owen and Fournier if you look at the mark in a mirror. Perhaps the mark in the book has been mis-printed in reverse. I usually look and read a mark in the manner that is the easiest to be applied, eg. nearest the edge.
Having said all this I think you are correct.

I have another one with the mark the 'wrong way round' and suspect the book is wrong

Mug with monogram - Richard & Barbara Wright
A charity shop find for 20p - can anyone help identify the stamp?
Mug stands about 4" tall. The handle has a definite lean to the right. A mistake or designed to fit a left-hander?

Thanks, zippy!
Makes sense as I'm only a "stone's throw" from Brampton although it does emphasise my comment on the "Building a Library" thread I started: Yates-Owen's "British Studio Potter's Marks" is "useful for confirming what you already know rather than discovering what you don't".

Bowl with stamp - Gosforth Pottery
Tempted as I am to follow Mordeep's advice to 'sex up' my descriptions, I think I'll just stick with describing this as a green bowl standing about 3" high by 4" wide with incised leaf decoration.
Can anyone help with identifying the potter or studio from the stamp? A stylised " c b":
or a "leaf":
Many thanks,
Greenie
