Despite being very well potted, this piece is not stamped. The finish and decoration is very assured - crisp combing, all very symmetrical etc. nice turning on the rim of the lid - obviously an experienced potter. However, there is a flaw in that the handles (which were added after the glaze was applied and combed) are not level. Considering the guide provided by the decoration lines this seems sloppy compared to the rest of the work; could it be the potter noticed this when it came to stamping and decided not to add their mark (or perhaps the handles were added by an apprentice?). The handles themselves have distinct twin "thumbprint" indents where they are joined to the body (rather like on the "cup marked JE" that Naomi posted on 6 April) whilst the combing pattern is obviously a bit of a staple. Any ideas? Size is 7" high by 5" dia.

I suspect it's by one of the 'factories' like Grayshott, rather than an individual potter.

Probably Bartley Heath Pottery. Mick Dixon was at Grayshott hence the similarities, but the combed pieces are part of his standard ware range

Yes I think your right Naomi, looking at other examples. I no longer have the piece, but it's good to know.
