Some of these sorts of nursery ware were given away with breakfast cereal or by other companies (eg Daily Express Rupert pottery) so I wouldn't be surprised if this was another example.

There are some differences from the plate that you bought with it marked Holkham but all I can think of when looking at the letters on the back of this plate is National Health Service. So it could have been made for them and possibly by Holkham but that's only a guess.

Googling NHS AM 1979 plate has thrown up a couple more in the series of nursery rhymes, listed as NHS plates used on the children's ward. Whether that's true or not, I don't know.

If you think of the plate without the transfer in the middle, you have a bog-standard blue-rimmed vitrified stoneware plate as used in hospital kitchens, canteens and wards up and down the country for decades. These were ordered by the million by local NHS procurement services from whichever large-scale pottery could meet the specification at the lowest price. Looks as if there must have been a special line ordered for childrens' hospitals with these transfers - unusually imaginative and light-hearted for the NHS!

used to get a lot of these via the Co-op in the 70's as I remember my mum collecting tokens to get them but not a mark I have seen before on your plate and I am pretty good on china
