Parrot Ranch Pottery, C.V. Empty Parrot Ranch Butter Crock

Post by GeeDub October 11th 2014, 4:34 am

Hi Naomi After helping me Identify a few pieces of my pottery, now I can actually give you some information on this piece. This is a Butter crock, sometimes referred to as a French Butter Crock or Butter Bell. You are supposed to fill the "cup" part with butter and the bowl with water and is supposed to keep your butter, when left on the counter, at room temperature so it is easier to use as a spread. I have an almost identical piece, also from Parrot Ranch Pottery, of course I am only about 80 miles from Carmel Valley. I haven't tried using mine as I have read that you have to change the water frequently, which I would probably forget to do. This probably will show up as my first post as I had trouble over the past year trying to post anything, so I finally just re-joined the forum with a similar name. I have a lot of pieces with interesting signatures and marks I want to put up if I can remember how to post the pictures.

Many thanks for the information Greg. I'll have to give it a go. I've come across a few of these and they've all been by US/Canadian potters so I've never known what they were for before now.

Posting photos takes practice, but you won't be able to do it If you're trying to post them from a phone or iPad or tablet. You'd have to post them via a website like Photobucket.
