pottery ? glass? mmm? Chinese?
this piece has confused me enormously: not sure if it's porcelain/pottery/glass. Has a vitreous feel, almost like saltglazed ironstone. The moulding is fine but don't know if that is hand done or in a mould. Can't find the 'reign' mark anywhere either. Is it a brush pot or vase? I think the animals are bird and lion with a prunus tree.

Brush pot maybe? If you're on Facebook there's a good Chinese ceramic group that may know. If not I could post the photos for you and ask for an id.

Had a reply -
A: At a glance it looks like an odd variant script of the Jiaqing mark...done in two rows of three instead of three rows of two...
Q: Would that make it old?
A: If it's from that period it would be...Lots of these molded vases also have Qianlong marks..almost none are from the period..The figures look older to me from what I can see, the wear on the foot looks about right for an older pot.. I think you can safely call it 19th C....is the unglazed area of the foot VERY smooth to the touch?

Plus:
"The text goes by 2 columns, right to left in traditional manner. The first six characters say "The Great Ming Wanli...". WanLi reign was1573-1619. If not a fake, really old stuff."
