Clayburn pottery (staffs) 1950s
A few bits from my collection. I took these pix some time ago for Alan Peat, who did the original Midwinter book,
as he was planning a new book on Clayburn, but alas heard no more about it.

Re: Clayburn pottery (staffs) 1950s
The Clayburn Pottery operated in Hanley from 1953 until 1957 and it had connections to the Midwinter Pottery.
It was in fact a company set up by William Lunt, who was the Works Director at Midwinter. This was done with the blessing of Roy Midwinter and Jessie Tait was even allowed to work for Clayburn in her spare time. The wares were on occasions shown on the Midwinter stand at trade fairs as well.
The range was what were called "fancies" at the time i.e. vases, small trays, lampbases, vinegar bottles and cruet sets and they were all hand painted.
The operation closed when William Lunt left the Potteries.

Backstamps?
Please can anyone inform me what the numbers and letters on the bottom of Clayburn pottery mean? Not year I think, perhaps firings? Is there a listing available to match them up?
Any advice most welcome.

Not much info on Clayburn unfortunately. Probably decoration/shape codes or even the
decorators number. We may never know.

Re: Clayburn pottery (staffs) 1950s
Yes, thank you. Only by working through each piece and cataloging the numbers against design may this be resolved. I have and have seen a number of little oil jugs, some on this forum; those with the same design appear have the same number which suggests design, however as you say, it could be the decorator who may have stuck with the same design. Some larger items, vases, lamp bases, do not have any numbers. I shall continue compiling.

Cruet set, England - Clayburn
Just took photos. Curious to know what the first word is. Second one seems to be England and numbered 95
