obscure mark On this Planter , it's a large piece Sgraffito design & possibly oriental , deffo got a bit of age to it Imo

Bretby, maybe? Early 20th Century would be my guess, but there are modern imports that look similar.

sorry guys , but no way is this the same as Cookiepops piece and I doubt very much if there are any in the garden centres either , I would estimate at least a 100yrs old and probably more .

MMMmm, now you have me thinking maybe it isn't old at all , I'm confused ( again ) it certainly looks the part though , cost me Feckin' £20 so it did , it's 8" High 9" dia. and .........................

I would agree Naomi , but ( there's always a but) I saw one like in the link in the states and it had the coloured top as well , also the pot on the link looks moulded and not sgrafitto if you save pic and make bigger , mine is hand thrown and is sgrafitto not a process worth doing for a few quid imo .

It may jut mean it's older. Chinese pots tend to be based on traditional forms; only the process of manufacture changes over the generations. However, they were copied (eg, Bretby, Burmantoffs) , so, yes, there's a chance it's more local.
