Martyn Gilchrist, Bembridge Pottery
This 3 1/4 inch posy vase has an impressed mark showing outline of Isle of Wight with IoW within. My first thought was Jo Lester but it doesn't look like any of the stuff of his I have seen before. Any thoughts please?

Probably not Jo Lester, judging by the style of the above pots, but clearly from the IoW pottery A recent find in a charity shop.

It is from the Isle of Wight, but not from Joe's "Island Pottery".
It is made by Martyn Gilchrist - Bembridge Pottery.
They are marked similarly (IoW (no "Jo") within an IoW Map), this is because Martyn was another of Joe Lester's apprentices, who went to set up his own pottery.

three mugs Martin Gilchrist IOW Pottery
Hi all. Found in Yorkshire, are these hand thrown mugs by Martin Gilchrist. They are all marked on the base with the impressed mark HAND MADE ISLE OF WIGHT MUG. Each mug measures 10 cms tall and weighs about 250 gms. There is no Isle Of Wight stamp which I thought was his normal mark. Any help much appreciated.

Nice bit of Bembridge Pottery in the window of the local charity shop, but with a hairline plus a very faded price ticket of £10:50 (and they wouldnt take an offer) I left it. (Lol, its still there - 3/8/17)

This small unassuming vase is, I guess from one of the IOW potteries but I can't identify the mark which appears to have potters or decorators initials .
Thanks

Re: Martyn Gilchrist, Bembridge Pottery, Isle of Wight
Information on Bembridge pottery and Martin Gilchrist, taken from A CENTURY OF CERAMICS by Lisa and Andrew Dowden and Robin Goodredge. An excellent book on 20th century IOW pottery.
Situated in Bembridge village IOW ran 1965-84. Martyn Gilchrist was apprenticed to Jo Lester in 1964. Martyn did most the throwing but most of the decoration was done by decorators he employed,Principal one being Collen Dunn (nee Sharpe) who worked there for 10 years, but aslo Annette Bonnet, Susan Bailey, Barbara Trzebski, Rosemary Brangan,Kay Sharpe.
It was sold at the pottery, a gift shop they owned. Also wholesale to gift shops around the Isle of Wight, and a bit to the mainland. Mark is the IOW in a map, with handmade at the top, and Bembridge down the bottom. A r are occasional mark was a printed isle of Wight on top, MWG in the middle, and Hand made down the bottom. Some stoneware also had the personal MG mark,of an M within a G.

Might be Bembridge written below?
If you add the photos to this thread they can be merged with the main IoW thread in due course

I will stick it on the main IoW thread now. I just thought that they might be different ones.

Re: Martyn Gilchrist, Bembridge Pottery, Isle of Wight
I see what you mean. I'm not finding this stamp on the other IoW threads, so it's either one of Jo Lester's or a new one entirely.

[quote="studio-pots"]I found this large plate/dish propped up by the apple tree in my "Garden Gallery".
I wonder what Jo was smoking when he made that one?
