Massive 16.5'' black ceramic Lamp Base 50/60's Hornsea Summit style ridges
I just found this hidden under a modern shade though I think it is Mid 20th Century. The base is half finished in raised ridges as like the Summit range and the unglazed base rim looks familiar. Small metal rod supports vintage bulb fitting and has a brass winged screw to secure it. 16.5 inches not including rod.

Hate to say it, but I think it's just a factory produced lamp sold in places like Homebase and B&Q

- by a charity shop, presumably. Did you get it at a car boot sale?

Yes I thought the fittings looked reasonably old, they are of a French make.

I think it has some age to it, the way the base is finished is typical for factory's such as Hornseaa and others around that period.
Any impressed numbers?

None but I will take the PAT testing sticker off, guys I've been buying a long time and it sang out to me. I don't mind if it's 80's which the plug and fittings suggest to my mind as worse case it is just really rather nice. Hey we all get it wrong but my Spiddy sense got tingled.....

It's not really the way to do things but putting the fixture, lead and plug together I would have to go with 70-80s and I just found a CE (European Standard Mark) mark on the plug. Any ways the hunt for an appropriate shade is under way.
