Quantock / Simonsbath Pottery ??
Does anyone know what the relationship is/was between Quantock Pottery and Simonsbath Pottery?
To my eye they appear to be the same or obviously related. I've also seen identical items marked as both.
I can find almost nothing about Simonsbath Pottery and items with their mark seem less common than those with the Quantock stamp.
From what I can find out, Quantock started at West Bagborough, then moved at some point to Simonsbath before finally moving to Wellington, before closing in 2012.
So, was it just named Simonsbath pottery for some (or all) of it's time at Simonsbath, or did it somehow spin off from Quantock (perhaps when it moved) ?
I've just bought a small cat with the Simonsbath stamp, but have seen others marked Quantock.
Any clarification would be greatly appreciated, as can find nothing myself.

Yeh, Just thought I'd see if anyone actually knew, before I trouble them.
I'll add the info when I find out.

Re: Quantock / Simonsbath Pottery ??
That is my guess also, but at the moment it is just a 'guess'.
Even the Quantock Pottery web site makes no mention of it.
It says about the pottery previously being Quantock Design.
It even says about the name and location changing but not the product - but no mention anywhere about the pottery ever having been named Simonsbath Pottery.
And as there have been cases of potteries closing and their molds then being used by another pottery, I want to be certain that this isn't the case here (or something similar).
Logical guesses can sometimes be wrong.

Re: Quantock / Simonsbath Pottery ??
I did contact Nick Goldsmith and he was kind enough to confirmed they are the same company.
This is his reply
"Hi,
I think can help you with your questions.
Rod Billington the previous owner and one of the founders of Quantock Design lived and had a studio and shop in Simonsbath to distinguish between pots produced in West Bagbrough where the main production took place and in Simonsbath the pottery was marked accordingly you will also find some of the Simonsbath pots are marked with RAB Rods initials. When my wife and I took over the pottery we used the name Quantock Pottery as this was how the pottery was known and called by most of the locals and it also helped define the change of ownership, so pots marked Quantock Design were made in West Bagbrough or Simonsbath and pots marked Quantock pottery were made in Wellington Somerset. So with over 30 years of pottery made as Quantock Design by anything up to 10/11 staff to a few years of pottery made by myself and my wife the vast amount will be marked Quantock Design.
I hope this has been of some use to you and things are a bit clearer now.
Regards
Nick Goldsmith."
I'm still a little unsure as to his meaning of 'main production'. It seems to me, that Simonsbath stamped items were made at the same time as Quantock Design stamped items, just at his smaller home studio. Rather than that production moved from one to the other location.
I've just picked up a 'queen on horse back' lamp. The seller actually bought it from Rod at his shop in Simonsbath (but I've no idea how it's stamped). I'll put pic's in the Quantock thread.
