Re: Hadeland Glassverk (Norway).
Lovely bowl, I was going to say Whitefriars with the enamelled rim,
but with no pontil, I'll have to go through the books now!

Re: Hadeland Glassverk (Norway).
Ahh… OK. I hadn’t thought that it might be Whitefriars… It looks like it has some age, possibly mid 20th Century or a bit earlier? Could be Italian maybe? The sides are straight but curve just before they meat the base, which is flat polished with lots of heavy scratches. It’s a transparent smokey green. Thanks dd.

Re: Hadeland Glassverk (Norway).
The small book doesn't show this shape, by Geoffrey Baxter 1964, but I've also had
other shapes fron this range, which I know are right, so I would go with Whitefriars.
Who else did glass in this colour with enamelled rims?

Re: Hadeland Glassverk (Norway).
Looks like it might be Shadow Green soda glass. Did Whitefriars make glass with a polished flat base? Spotted a flying saucer shaped dish in this colour with white enamel rim but had scooped out polished pontil.

Re: Hadeland Glassverk (Norway).
Apparently they were difficult to fire… the white rim tended to separate, so not many about

Re: Hadeland Glassverk (Norway).
No info in the big book. The small book doesn't say they were soda glass, but I'm pretty sure they were, so it should be
quite thin and light, compared to the usual Whitefriars.
As you can see from my pic in the above link!

The bowl does have some weight to it, I thought it was crystal… but not sure that I’ve handled soda glass

I did email Whitefriars but they don’t let you attach a pic and they haven’t responded yet

Re: Hadeland Glassverk (Norway).
Interesting, never seen most of those shapes before, and there is so
little information in the books about this range.
I'm still pretty confident it's right though.

Re: Hadeland Glassverk (Norway).
I sold two in this range, a vase and a bowl in shadow green, and have just looked at my photo record. Both pieces had the expected Whitefriars concave polished pontil, so it's puzzling yours doesn't. There were some Whitefriars pieces that just had a flat base (which is useful for us dealers who want to pick up stuff on the cheap because a lot of people will think it cn't be Whitefriars! ). But I would have thought it was unusual to have different finishes within the same range.
That said, I feel sure that your piece is Whitefriars because it's such a distinctive piece and hard to reproduce. Have you tried the Whitefriars facebook group?

Re: Hadeland Glassverk (Norway).
Interesting… Still can’t fathom why there’s no record of this shape and why the flat polished base? It’s a mystery. Don’t do Facebook! Thanks for the info.

Re: Hadeland Glassverk (Norway).
Think I’ve already hinted at this, but does anyone think that it could be Czech / Bohemian from the 1930s / 50s (Deco)? They like to enamel on glass… Maybe Mr Baxter was inspired by the technique and designed the range for Whitefriars??

Unlikey. I've never seen that white enamel trailing the rim of a Bohemian piece.
