The Towner Gallery Eastbourne
Went on Friday...two interesting Exhibitions:-
The First ends on August 31st..."Designing The Everyday"...taking its cue from the 1934 Harrods Exhibition"Modern Art for The Table"...it shows The work artists like Laura Knight,Paul Nash, Graham Sutherland ,Duncan Grant did for Omega,Wedgwood,Shell, Ascher Studios etc. Excellent stuff !!
Secondly a breathtaking journey through the life of Peggy Angus...Teacher,Designer,Painter....with a great video of her ...she comes across as a genial curmudgeon...and a rabid Leftie to boot
Be aware the first Exhibition ends on the 31st...and London Bridge is closed...although in a parochial way that only affects you if you are coming from London

Re: The Towner Gallery Eastbourne
We almost went today Brin and will try and go down next Saturday - decided that the seaside might be busy Bank Holiday weekend.
I remember Ursula Mommens telling me that Peggy Angus threw some extremely wild parties.

Re: The Towner Gallery Eastbourne
I caught both of the exhibitions yesterday and thought that they complemented each other very well so it is rather sad that the "Designing the Everyday" one finished today, so not allowing future visitors the opportunity to see both.
Below is an image of a large Henry Moore screenprint on silk by Ascher, London from Designing the Everyday.

I came across the following tiles at the other end of the seafront that caught my eye.

On the outside of an Ice Cream Parlour and, as I took photographs I really had to make a purchase - double scoop banana and black cherry cheesecake!

The place was heaving with people so it wasn't a good time and the staff I saw were all young and very busy.
I suspect if I had asked they would have thought I was mad.

Re: The Towner Gallery Eastbourne
well at least they drilled into the grout line when fixing that downpipe, Paul once posted a similar pic..Stig Lindberg tiles I think and the owner had stuck signs to the tiled walls

Re: The Towner Gallery Eastbourne
I wish you'd mentioned it while it was still on Brin, as I would have gone down. My fault really because I knew about it but forgot.
Have one of his paintings on the bedroom wall.

Yes, an original oil pastel on the wall. It's a late one from 1995 but I do have a couple of earlier ones too. I've got a mixed painting/pot show in Mayfair in March and will probably take a couple along to that.
