No mention of Pendelfin!
I would have thought there would have been a thread for Pendelfin on here. Now I must admit that I am not a fan of Pendelfin, but, I have had some amazing pieces over the years.I have sold all the Pendelfin I have found and this has funded the few pieces of Martinware I have purchased.I found a very rare Old Meg plaque and this changed hands a couple of times before ending up in Burnley Football Club Boardroom.I have also found some rare fairy bookends for £2 , a Rheingold lamp for £1 also a very rare Rosa rabbit in a black dress.

Re: No mention of Pendelfin!
Some people will tell you that I pretty much collect anything, but I do admit to drawing a line at Pendelfin.

I do not collect it either, however, I do have a good knowledge of it, along with other things I am not keen on i.e. border fine arts, pocket dragons etc.I sell these undesirables to fund the things I do like.I see it as swapping.

Re: No mention of Pendelfin!
Unfortunately, I have sold several pieces of Pendelfin for incredible amounts of money. One piece for £3,500 another for £800 another for £920 another for £400.Same also for Border Fine Arts, Bossons and David Winter cottages.I am still looking for that elusive piece of Hans Coper or Martinware on the car boot and charity shop but not been lucky yet!So I have educated myself with knowledge of utter crap, I am ashamed to say that I have even got all the books and price guides!

Not implying of course that collecting these isn't okay or satisfying ...or even profitable....and you almost never see a whole collection for sale at once in the charity shops.

Re: No mention of Pendelfin!
We did once have a load of carnival glass in the local charity shop. It's not something I've ever collected before, but when I overheard a guy telling the manager she'd under priced it (mostly labelled £3 £4 & £5) I picked out a few that weren't chipped and bought them. The rest never sold.
Turned out a couple were pretty rare pieces, but talking to dealers at one of the antiques fairs I was told that a big collector had recently dumped their collection at an auction house and the prices had plummeted.

I have bought pocket dragons for family, but they're now all chipped and worthless.

Re: No mention of Pendelfin!
Funny you should say that as I do have my brother's sets of plastic Airfix WW2 soldiers, and I expect some of those are Japanese.

Re: No mention of Pendelfin!
I have to say that I find it very sad that some people seem to get so addicted to collecting something that they will pay the sums of money mentioned here for what at the end of the day is worthless crap.

Yes SP, but sentiment sells. We've all seen it, Some of the the prices paid for Toys, Dolls,
Teddy bears, Trains, Ephemera, Militaria, etc. etc. A lot of it is mass produced crap.
Put it on TV and they will buy it. If anyone can get a series on studio pottry on TV, we
will be laughing all the way to the bank!

That doesn't make me feel any the less sad I'm afraid.

To be fair, an awful lot of "highly valued" studio pottery falls into that category.
Much of it should be thrown against de waal.
