Here's a nice teabowl I've just acquired with John Leach's personal mark. Dated 2004 (most helpfully). 9.1cm (height)

Personally I prefer his Boys From The Black Stuff pieces. They are so completely different from his normal output which is bang on the Leach tradition.

Just heard he passed away this weekend.
I visited last year and his son was helping to fire the kilns etc. He said they were trying to restock the shop from his father’s personal collection (he wasn’t able to throw large pieces any more) but he would keep taking them back saying he hadn’t finished looking at them yet.

Aww that is sad. It has been a passing of the giants in the past year or two. Muchelney was such a consistently fine pottery over so many years, it is like seeing an institution disappear. His personal work has been always been of the very highest quality. I must admit I am very proud to have a few of his pieces. They are superb.
