Tiles, coffee table
Spotted this today and wondered if it was worth going back for the tiles. Homemade coffee table, possibly 50s-70s, made for the tiles. Possibly a kit? No signatures or monograms that I can see. Bases were hidden underneath.
Ruscha or Purbeck, maybe? 6 in total.

Re: Tiles, coffee table
I have bought quite a few tiled tables, chopping boards, panels , etc and each time the plan was to remove the tiles for a later project but sadly they had all been glued down so well that removal was impossible

Almost certainly Danish, they did a lot of these tiled coffee tables, many unmarked,
or stickers fall off. These mucky brown tiles are not so popular but nice anyway.

Re: Tiles, coffee table
a Danish dealer told me he could always spot Danish coffee tables from that era as they always used the same wood, one that wasn't used by the Dutch, French or Belgians

Easy Dan, pour Meths into the gap round the tiles, keep pouring it in as the wood soaks it up, after a while it will
soften the tile cement, and you can carefully lever out the tiles with something like a stanley-knife blade.
Recued many Wallwork etc. tiles from cheese-boards like that.
Re: Tiles, coffee table
fantastic!! Thanks DD

It's in a charity shop so if there was a nest the other tables have been lost.

Re: Tiles, coffee table
I have seen these exact tiles 3 or 4 times, each time on single tables

Re: Tiles, coffee table
With no stretcher at the front I would still say a nest table.
10 mins with some wire wool and teak oil and you have a nice
Danish 1970s table to cover in pottery!

Re: Tiles, coffee table
Of course Naomi, you could tell us where the charity shop is, and we will all form
an orderly queue on Friday! (probably a 400 mile round-trip for me though).

...and, no, it's nothing to do with me. the name is just a coincidence.

He He you've now given the game away where you get all your wonderful stuff!
I feel a trip down south is on the cards next year....
Re: Tiles, coffee table
Don't rush, Denby. It's the first half decent thing they've had in all year.
I took a couple of bootfuls down to them in the Summer, Dan. They took the first lot but turned away the next lot. Sometimes you just can't give it away.

And you left it behind!
Re: Tiles, coffee table
I trawl about 50 charity shops in the county. There's always something better just found the corner.

I regularly do 50 in a day, and sometimes get nothing at all, grab it while you can!
