C.D. Nowell (Cheshire)
Goddens and YOF gives the information as:
Disley Cheshire 1946-51.
Prestbury Cheshire 1951-59.
So far I have had no luck finding any more information on this potter.
The wares are really leaning more towards "Art" pottery that Studio, as
they are similar in style to many industrial Art potteries of the 1920s
and 1930s, like Candy, Pilkingtons, Minton & Hollins, Saunders IOW,
Devonmoor etc.
The Disley mark
The Prestbury mark

Re: C.D. Nowell (Cheshire)
It's all so well made and with such diverse glaze techniques, I wouldn't mind betting that
He/She worked at an industrial pottery at some time previously.

Im guessing a"pin dish"
The color is much more like the blurred pic and although its hard to read it is signed C.D.Nowell..Prestbury..and i agree its strange nobody knows more than the initials

Re: C.D. Nowell (Cheshire)
A little information about C D (but still no idea of what the initials stood for) is that he corresponded with Bernard Leach from his home near Matlock and in July 1944 wrote that he was "grateful for Bernard's criticisms of his work and looked forward to visiting St. Ives."
In the same letter he stated that, "his growing maturity as a water-colour sketcher had begun to work through to his pottery but the War occurred and I had to stop before the metamorphosis was complete."
In the same letter Nowell talked about his admiration of the work by the artists, Russell Flint and David Jagger.

My solitary example:
The "90" couldn't possibly be a year, could it?

I think it's probably a shape number HB.
Thanks SP, so it looks as though he was potting before the war also,
in nearby Matlock.

Just nomenclature, but this would be called a "Posy ring".

Re: C.D. Nowell (Cheshire)
A teensy bit more information from the pottery studio.
C D Nowell operated in Disley, Cheshire from 1946 to 1951 and in Prestbury, Cheshire from 1951 to 1959.
I wonder is she worked at Upchurch? The glazes and design are very similar.
