Hi All.  Found this vase in the North West of England recently.  Good impressed mark at the base that reads either CB or CR (but I could be wrong on both counts and am more than happy to be corrected).  Heavy for its size (almost 850 gms - 1 lb 13 oz) - measures 19.5 cms (7.5 inches) tall and is 12 cms (4.75 inches) in diameter at the base.  I've included an image of the unglazed base so that if anyone knows what material it is (stoneware? etc) they could let me know as I have very little knowledge in identifying what material studio pottery is made from. Thanks

I think it's Russell Collins, Hook Norton.
It may be stoneware; others will know better than me.

I suspect that he has been doing the pattern for many years though, as I recognise that it was his from the pattern before I saw the mark.

Russell Collins, Hook Norton Pottery Empty Large, heavy and unidentified jug - Hook Norton?

Post by Beege August 21st 2019, 5:28 pm

This jug is 21cm tall and feels quite heavy. The pattern looks vaguely familiar and to my uneducated eye it seems quite well made, but I can find no indication of its origins (unless the indentationss at the base of the handle are the marks).
Does anybody recognise the style or maker?
Thank you

Looks like Hook Norton Pottery but he marked his pieces. Edited to say I've come across other potters using the same style of decoration, such as Laurie Short, so may not be by Collins

Yes...I can see what you mean Naomi. i've had a 'rummage' on the net and I can see similar designed jugs attributed to Russell Collins Hook Norton. Shame there's no mark I can see but I'm now much more confident that Hook Norton is a good 'shout'.
Thank you again.

Russell Collins, Hook Norton Pottery Empty CK/CR mark in stoneware - Russell Collins

Post by HelenC August 16th 2022, 5:21 pm

Any thoughts about this CR or CK monogram, thought I’d would be easy to track but no luck. On a large quantity of fairly typical mid/late 1980s dinnerware but nicely made and it would be good to put a name to it if possible.
