I think this is cinque ports, from a parkinson mould, which they did
turn in to money boxes.
The base of my Parky bull.

Parkinson Owl? - Cinque Ports copy
This is in my father in laws collection of owls...had my eye on it for a while. On a visit today I decided to take some photos to find out if it is a Richard Parkinson owl he's got...not thinking of inheritance at all!
Frequent holidays in Cornwall over 50-60 years have blurred the dates the owls were bought so there's not much to go on. The Parkinson's figures I've seen are not this colour and don't have colour in the eyes. There's no marks on the base to identify, but it has the same basic shape...possibly a re-used mould after closure, although most of the figures I believe were destroyed.
Is this a copy cat or could it be a Parkinson?
If anyone can help please.

I think it's one of the Rye Cinqe ports owls from a parky mould.
I'll check the books tomorrow.
Yes its Rye, the solid black eyes are the give-away.
As a final clincher, you could shine a strong light inside,
as the Parkys are porcelain, and the Rye is earthenware.

I thought it didn't quite look right. The Parkinson's decoration of the figures, in my view is a lot more exciting with the free-hand line detail. This just seems a bit flat in comparison...and has eyes.
My In laws think they bought it 1974-75 in Lelant Cornwall but they're a bit fuzzy on details. They went to this particular pottery every trip to Cornwall they made, just to buy a different owl.
The owl mould must have been used again and not destroyed as I've read some figures moulds were.
Thanks for the info dd.

The Parkinsons sold quite a few of the moulds on to Cinque ports.
Also a pig/bear/bull/cow, most modified into money boxes.

Thank you for your reply. I had seen this thread, and did wonder if this Owl was also a copy.
