Yuriko Hill Empty Yuriko Hill

Post by studio-pots April 14th 2015, 10:08 pm

Yuriko was born in Japan in 1950, came to live in the UK in the 1970s and was married to the artist, Anthony Hill.

She learnt to pot here and was the first unknown potter whose work I exhibited back in the 1990s. Sadly she died in August 2013 but below is one of her hand-built vessels that I sold for the second time just recently.

Yuriko Hill Yuriko10

This is around 18 cm high and is larger than most pieces she made.

Yuriko Hill Empty Help with flattened ovoid vase, Yh mark with gallery number - Yuriko Hill

Post by aircut33 March 23rd 2023, 4:16 pm

I have this ovoid vase which has a mark under-base together a label suggesting that it has been through a gallery/exhibition at some point in time.

Anyone have an idea what this may be?

Many thanks.

It was hand-built by Yuriko Hill and it would have originally been sold by me at the Harlequin Gallery. The number is a stock number used by Yuriko and it would have been made in 2003.

Yuriko was Japanese by birth but was married to the artist, Anthony Hill.

She began making her hand-built vessels in the late 1990s in London, where she lived and worked.

She died in 2012.
