slipware plate with IM mark - possibly Ivor Morris
I have this grey studio pottery plate with blue and dark grey lines on it. It's about 25cms across and has a potters mark on the back but it's quite faint. It's in a circle and looks like an upside down trident or an m with an l vertically through the middle of the m, if that makes sense. It's a very matt finish like stoneware and I thought it was slipware but not sure if that's the case. I'm a learner with studio pottery." />" />

Can't see the mark clearly but it might be a piece by Ray Gardiner, who potted in Yoxford from 1965.
I don't know enough about him or his work to be positive.

Yes it could be.
Compare it with the marks here:

I would be very surprised if it was Will Illsley's work, as I have quite alot of it down the years and, from what I can see in the image above, the mark isn't right.

Ivor Morris and Ivan Martin both had I through M marks. I don't know if this is in their style, though.

Re: slipware plate with IM mark - possibly Ivor Morris
Ivan Martin had been at Winchcombe before starting his own pottery at Cricklade so my feelings are: -
(a) The brushwork isn't good enough to be his work.
(b) Although he did make some stoneware at Cricklade, I would think that a dinner plate like this would have been marked CRICKLADE rather than his personal seal.
(c) The mark on this doesn't look like the personal seal of his on his thread on this Forum.
I don't know Ivor Morris or his work so can't comment.
