Flower / Star Four Dots Vase - Michael Cohen, Massachusetts
Hi. I am new to this forum and I have a few Mid Century pottery pieces that need to be identified. My knowledge of ceramics and pottery is limited to bare with me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
My first piece is a nice green and blue vase with a matte glaze finish. I think the vase is made of clay. It measures 9 3/4" high by 4 1/4" in diameter at the base. The vase is marked at the bottom with a circular stamp that is a four pointed flower or star with four dots. Has anyone seen this mark before and would it be North American or Scandinavian? Thanks!

Welcome to the Forum. Can't say who it's by but I would be very surprised if it was Scandinavian.
Did you buy it locally to you?

Just seen a similar mark elsewhere. Someone suggested Eric Leaper or S Saint Leger, but those seemed to be an unbroken cross and 4 dots.

Hi, Studio pots! I did buy the vase locally at a thrift shop in NYC.
Hi Naomi, I will look into those names.
Can anyone recommend a good book(s) on 20th Century Pottery?
Thanks

There is a book on British marks but seeing as you found this in NYC and the mark and glaze style don't look British I suspect that it is by an American potter.

Agreed, most probably American. St Leger seemed to do slipware and it isn't the style or glazes of Leaper's work
