Are you sure? The one in the book has dots either side and is more of a 'handwritten' font.

No, not 100% certain, and I do admit that I didn't look up David Heminsley's mark in the book before responding. And I also know that David used stoneware, at least during the latter part of his long potting career, and not red earthenware like in this little jug.
But I still feel pretty confident that it's by him, perhaps using an earlier mark from before he settled in Scotland in the 1970s. This confidence might be something to do with a familiarity with his style of throwing and glazing, gained from my having slept next to a David Heminsley bedside lamp every night for more than 30 years.
But I might well be wrong, as I often am. Will be interested to hear of any alternative identifications.
