Please ID Pottery Please - Marked TOKIO ENGLAND - MADE IN ENGLAND NUMBER 99
Hi, I have searched on net for this marking but I have had no luck unfortunately. If anyone can help this would be wonderful. The base has an incised mark in CAPITALS TOKIO and ENGLAND UNDERNEATH and then a stamped mark made in england in a silver/grey rectangle over the top of this mark. It appears to have a handpainted 99 in gold paint also. It also had a 951 or 751 very faint number also hand painted or etched. It is a lovely piece with a art deco appearance but has a more modern finish? Any clues would be fabulous. Thank you. Please see pictures.

TOKIO is the name of the pattern. It would be a 1930s Staffordshire pottery,
it's similar to that semi-matt Brentleigh Ware.

Hello thank you for that. Does it belong to any particular group of designers or makers? Cheers

It would have been produced by one of the factories that produced inexpensive wares that tried to mimic the style of the general middle of the range wares that were popular in the day.
Therefore it is not the type of pottery that has ever been collected in the UK.

All is not lost yet! I saw a piece the other day with matt decoration and the same
mottled brown on the base. It had a black sticker underneath with gold writing,
It may have said Trentham ware, but I can't recall exactly.
I stupidly forgot to write it down. If I can remember where it was I'll make a note.

Found the sticker item and another piece. with a mark from that period.
Burlington art pottery J Shaw
Etrurian Pottery (Staffs but no details)
Embosa ware and even early Sylvac could be other possibilities.
