Fantoni vase?
Thank you for all of the information you have posted about Fantoni vases. I recently acquired a leather clad ceramic vase that appears to be Fantoni, but are not signed. Any assistance in authenticating or identifying the artist would be greatly appreciated! Many thanks, Melinda

Re: Fantoni vase?
I've moved this from the Fantoni thread as it's attribution is still in doubt. I'll also upload the photos on this post as most people prefer not to click on links

Re: Fantoni vase?
Without a signature I think it would be difficult to convince buyers that they were by Fantoni. There have been a lot of copies imported from China, as well as those made in Italy by other potteries. I would like to see another with the same facial features that has his signature to be sure they are originals.

It's a nice 50s italian piece. I've seen a few bits of this stuff with the leatherette
backing, often rotted, so peeled it off. never sure why they did this strange addition.
My guess would be San Marino, though definitely in the Fantoni style.

Re: Fantoni vase?
The right colours for San Marino, and they also covered pieces in leather.

Altough I suspect if it is really animal based, it maybe pigskin, not leather BBBrrrr!
