Can anyone tell me if this is even studio pottery?!
Hi. If anyone can help me by identifying this style of glazed decorated vase, and perhaps a maker or factory, that would be wonderful. I'm afraid I don't even know if this is studio pottery, or factory-made. There are no potters' marks. The glaze decoration is flush with the background surface (not raised), and has some pitting that seems to be part of the manufacturing process; and the white glaze (on the figures) also has some crazing. It stands about 10.5 inches tall. Thanks in advance for any help!

Excellent thanks! Here's another photo from a different side. Apologies for the dead fly, which I hadn't noticed... :-)

Don't know who made it but I do know it's very nice
Reminds me of Peter Wright's work.

Thank you, too! I'd love to see another pot painted in a similar style and palette, and also to understand how the decoration was applied (and why it is only pitted in the areas with the actual painted strokes, as opposed to in the areas of the blue background wash).

Looks like crayon drawings and patches of colour. We're applied first Then a wax resist has been brushed over the top of the pictures and patches, before the blue wash was brushed over everything, and then fired.

The way of decoration appears to be similar to that used at the Aviemore Pottery (an internet search will bring up numerous examples). Having said that this appears better than anything I have seen from there and thrown too, so I'm not suggesting there is any actual connection.

Thank you for this suggestion. I am now alive to the world of wax-resist decoration!!

I would agree with Studio. The decorative style is very much like the Aviemore Scottish Highlands pottery. They used an ink stamp on the base, which can get worn off with time. You see it regularly on Ebay, and just google for lots of similar examples.

Avimore is slipcast, though. Can't tell for sure but this looks wheel thrown

Exactly, not sure why the Aviemore road was pursued, It's a nice pot, Llangollen also sprang to mind
the decoration is similar, but again not sure the clay is right.
Re: Can anyone tell me if this is even studio pottery?!
It seems to have been pursued because people don't seem to have read what I wrote.
I only mentioned Aviemore because JS wrote, "I'd love to see another pot painted in a similar style and palette".

Yes SP. point taken, but there is something about this pot, seemingly very
well made but...
well made but...

Llangollen sprang to mind too.
My point about Aviemore was not about Aviemore per-sae - although that is an avenue worth persuing in ID-ing it - , but whether or not it was slip moulded or wheel thrown.

I did say in my original post that this vase looks to have been thrown.
