I have a jug by Pealing and it's not the same mark, but may be he had more than one?

Someone was looking at Beaufort Pottery mark, it could be an updated version they are using now?

I know this mark has been attributed to Charlotte Epton elsewhere, but doesn't that blue glaze look a bit modern for someone who died in 1970?

It depends on whether it's Copper or Barium. Barium is more popular these days as it gives a more consistent result, but I seem to recall it was being experimented with back in the 60s and 70s

I think you need to explain why you suddenly come out with such a completely off the wall suggestion.

I would need some bloody real evidence to convince me that someone who potted at the Leach Pottery for 3 years in the late 1920s, then for 2 years alone in the early 1930s, followed by some potting in the 1950s with Joanna Constantinidis before dying in 1970 had anything to do with this.
It's far too new and totally divorced from anything she is known to have made.

and where did he get that information from?
Just because a collector has something on his website with that attribution doesn't mean that it's correct.
I know Mike and I don't believe that he is the kind of person to just make something up but as HB says that glaze doesn't come from back then.

.... and all that seems to be written is that she basically gave up her artistic career after marrying Edward Bawden, the artist, in the early 1930s.
There is the remark in the marks book that she began potting again with Joanna Contantinidis in the 1950s but no suggestion of that being significant or for a significant time. Living near to each other in Essex, I can quite believe that, but have not seen any work that has been confirmed to be by her from the 1950s and later.
I found some images of their home taken just after Bawden died in 1989 and will stick a link here, as I thought they were interesting

Re: 3 circles a line & a dot - by Beresford Pealing ( not Charlotte Epton)
I appreciate this is an old thread (I've been rummaging into the historic dialogues on this site), but it isn't clear whether it was agreed whether this was indeed by Charlotte Epton. The mark looks like Beresford Pealing to me, but that seems to have been poo-pooed! I've seen this mark on a candle holder which looks pretty modern and Beresford did make candle holders.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: 3 circles a line & a dot - by Beresford Pealing ( not Charlotte Epton)
I forgot about this thread. It’s been confirmed as one of Beresford (Berey) Pealing’s Marks. One of his pots is decorated in the same style and it’s the mark in the latest edition of the Marks book. Unfortunately the Marks book doesn’t include his earlier mark which is slightly different (see the big Jug in the Berey Pealing thread)
