Re: Help please Oriental Bowl Red Character Marks
Hi There
It has a look of 18th century Chinese porcelain for the Dutch market , but I get a feeling that it is a 20th century copy.
Better photo's and close ups of the porcelain and the edge of the base if you can.

Re: Help please Oriental Bowl Red Character Marks
The mark is upside down. If you check the Gotheborg.com website they may have it on there. I wouldn't like to say how old it is. It looks hand painted but doesn't look 18thC from the photos. Might be early 20thC though.

Re: Help please Oriental Bowl Red Character Marks
Hi there Claire , there are a lot of reproductions of the Chinese export ware and i believe from these photo's that this is one of them.
I would say 1970's - 1990's

Re: Help please Oriental Bowl Red Character Marks
Hi Clara,
Your bowl could be 18th century period.
The mark shown is upside down but a very clear image. Gerald Davisons' book on Marks on Chinese Ceramics does not show your your complete mark which is not surprising since there are many which have not yet been identified. Two of the characters I can recognise JU (Family name) and ZHI (Made for the retreat of peace and good fortune) Your bowl could have been made as a special order.
The piercing on the bowl looks to be hand made. As far as I can see on your image the red mark inside the two squares looks to be hand painted as is the second mark shown which looks to me like a signature of the painter. These factors are typical of 18th century items. Modern copies tend to use stamped marks.
Most Chinese Antique ceramics are extremely well made and can survive in very good condition considering the age of the item and some can even look new. My advise would be to take tour item to an expert in Chinese ceramics a major auction house and let them appraise it for you.
