Vase with Torn Lable
Help required to put a name to the maker of this Pot. It is made of stoneware and has a pierced area near the top. There is a label on the base unfortunately the surname is missing, I think it says Jon C which could be a surname beginning with C or a second christian name and an unknown surname. Where is Sherlock Holmes when you need him?. Can anyone id this from the style of potting?

Re: Vase with Torn Lable
Wonder if it might be an early piece by Jon Chiswell Jones? It was just the first name that came to me.

Thanks studio-pots you could be right. I have found an illustration of a jug which is a similar colour and has the same iron spots in the glaze. Nothing like his current work.

Re: Vase with Torn Lable
Certainly not like his current work but the C word would either have to be very long or there was a second word for the label text to be centred. That's why I suggested it and if you've found something similar by him then I think the guess is correct.

I don't think it's by him to be honest (though it is well made), but may be wrong, do you happen to have a link or picture of the illustration you found please?

Re: Vase with Torn Lable
Hi Potty, thanks for your comments. I just googled "Jonathan Chiswell Jones pottery jug" and then looked at images. The first image should be a jug which was sold on a well known auction site. Unfortunately the item can not now be viewed.
We need another one with an intact label.

Re: Vase with Torn Lable
Hi, I've seen the jug but can't see the base, assume it had "JCJ" signed or impressed somewhere? (wonder if your chould be marked under the lable!)
May be worth just asking the potter, I've met him and he seemed like a friendly chap to me.

Contacted Jonathan Chiswell Jones and he confirmed that this is NOT his work.
