signed agateware vase - John Hilder
About 7 inches in height, a vase I've had numerous years around the house. I have never been able to find anything much about the potter, now on internet searches I can only find whimsical animals and one planter which all seem a very different in style! The mark is painted the same way, I was wondering if this is John Hilder and possibly his earlier work...if anyone's seen anything like this ?
Could anyone tell me anything about him?

Re: signed agateware vase - John Hilder
I found a mention on the Apple Tree Gift Shop (Devon) website where he states, "I set up my studio pottery at Seaton in 1981. I made wheel thrown pottery which was exhibited at local galleries and national craft fayres. Eventually I developed a popular range of ceramic sculpture with a whimsical slant."
So it fits but I've never seen any of his work so can't say for certain.
This process of mixing different colours clays is known as neriage in Japan but is used elsewhere.

Thanks for the information. He probably moved on to what proved popular to make a living as everyone has to...but I really like the vase.
