Ercol lamp or not an Ercol lamp... ???
Hi, thanks for taking the time to look at this lamp.
Its a tall standard lamp made from what looks like beech wood.
Very much in the style of Ercol. Has a label stating so, but looks to have been transposed from another item probably a chair.
I have searched around quite a lot for Ercol lamps and not found anything of the sort.
Has anybody else ever come across one.
It looks very much in the scandinavian style.
Please share any thoughts you have with me as im getting nowhere.
regards Scott

Was a first for me too, had to have it even though i had my doubts about the Ercol sticker.
Im sure it wouldnt be torn like that if it had always been there.

The tapering of the feet and rods looks right, and the wood looks right from thr pix.
So where do we go? has someone peeled a label off something, and stuck it on this?

try to peel it off, if it's held on with old glue it will be discoloured
i have reservation as the lamp holder is unlike those on other Ercol lamps

The lamp holder itself is a modern replacement, with an unused (naughty!)
earth-terminal, just needs some 3 core cable fitting.
That 1950/60s switch looks right period also.

I'm sure Ercol never made any lamps. I have an old, early 60's catalogue with lots of photos of interior displays and if they made lamps they would have included them.
The style also is not refined enough to be Ercol.

Re: Ercol lamp or not an Ercol lamp... ???
now you mention it the lamp does lack the refinement of Ercol furniture and I'm fairly sure it isn't Ercol but surely one catalogue doesn't prove they didn't make a lamp in later years?

Re: Ercol lamp or not an Ercol lamp... ???
So the question now seems to be did Ercol ever make any lamps. I thought i had seen some fairly dull brown standard lamps attributed to Ercol but am not so sure if they really exist or not.
Im sure someone should be able to settle this question.
I too have my doubts to this lamps ercol authenticity, certainly wasnt an item that went into mass production.
Could it have been a trial or one off commission maybe??
