So this IS a piece of Briglin Pottery - Probably dates 55 - 65. The really strange this is the label?

My assumption is that Malcolm Bishop (dealer) Established 1935 - South King Street has gone and is the King St next to St Pauls. I worked in what is now King St in St James. it's not that.

Any ideas anyone?

Ohh - it could also have been a retailer. They did sell through John Lewis and Holmes.

This seems to have been a Manchester company,: there's a Blackfriars there too.

A couple of references in books, as a retailer of scandinavian design, and of "pretty handpainted useless things".

I wonder if "Blackfriars 1935" is an old style phone number, rather than a date ?

That solves it. Manchester - I did not consider outside of London but it was probably a retailer about 1960 that they were selling through.

The Blackfriars were all across the country of course. Dominican friars.

"Malcolm Bishop Limited was set up on 31 Dec 1956."

Thanks

Yes definitely - our village phone number was 'village' 459 back in the 70's.
